And....NORTH wins the War?

Waaaait, WHAT !?

The North won the war? I thought this worked the other way ..

The side I thought that was supposed to win was the one with not really an advantage of people and ammunition.

But doesn't North have all this ?

But it was different for the Revolutionary War !?

Doesn't this have my mind totally boggling !!!

Buuuut , let's talk about why the North did win!

Their biggest advantage was : their resources! Economically , and with Man-Power! 

Compared to the South ...

Their population was 5 to 2 

Industrial Production was 10 to 1

Capital in banks 4 to 1

Hmm , sounds kind of powerful to me .

They were also fighting this war for a humanitarian nature ; abolishing slavery. 

At the same time their tactic was an unique one called : Anaconda Plan.

The Southern also had their advantages, but in this case they were not the ones that would exactly bring much favor to the South. 

They were fighting a defensive war, and whilst where also fighting in their home field. 

Although, these tactics somewhat proved effective in the Revolutionary War, they were not able to help them out in this war .

Well , the Country is at a successful state right now ..except the debt part ..but we're ALL surviving :)

The North winning had obviously something to do with is ..so it's best to appriciate it now :D !

Abe Lincoln :D !

I don't know why ..but Lincoln always stood out to me as a President.

I think it was his ideas, that got to me !

While this country was out breaking in a fight, he said these AMAZING words ...

"A house divided against itself cannot stand"

What he meant was : If the people of USA go against themselves only, then how in the world are we ever going to get to a compromise?

If we're all against each other in the same country, how can the country prosper?

There was no way !

He was such a simple man! He came from the farms of Kentucky, while he turned down his fathers life as a farmer and went ahead to become a store clerk in New Salem, Illinois. 

He was calm, yet so authoritative. 

He was able to successfully pass the Emancipation Proclamation which abolished slavery in many parts of the US; On January 1, 1863 he was able to free the slaves and this may have been a better start for the US, which STILL glitches to fix.

Oh man ; Women ALWAYS stand out !

It's the truth & I couldn't be more proud of these two wonderful women:

Elizabeth Cady Stanton :: Susan B. Anthony

Today without these two legends, things would definitely be different for the Women in the USA.

Both of them teamed up together and fought for Women's Rights.

The held the first convention in Seneca Falls, New York.

They'd claimed for equality for women in public life.

They defended their arguments with the very famous Constitutional saying, "All men and women are created equal."

It all started with a slavery movement as now had turned into a fight for the women.

They'd also campaigned the rights of a women to divorce her husband, or the correct right of the property if her husband lives no more.

Today, due to them Women are able to vote ; rightfully own property ; live their life according to their rules .

It's our very right .

And I am glad they were able to fight for us :)

Abolitionism ..FINALLY!

Yes, I am a very humanitarianism person .. at least I think I am. 
Any kind of injustice against ANYONE, just gets me started .
Even if it was like about like 400 years ago (392 to be exact).
So when the aboltionlism movements started, it really got me excited. 
So while reading my book and the chapters, I was imagining two little people fighting.
One was obviously that good looking, anti-slavery Hero (:
& the other was the green colored, pro-slavery Villain :(
All though no one is really considered the Villain, or the Hero in those days.
Because the South would side one , while the North, someone else .
And again , ii be a little party pooper and wonder if they really tried hard enough the first time?
I am kind of a negative thinker when it comes to fighting for rights and what not ..
I was think it's not hard enough. 
But that's just me.
I'm SURE they did.
I was glad that people started their own thinking and started realized that slavery was in all a bad thing. 
All it did was exploit the African-Americans, and take away their rights.
This question always brewed in my mind ..
If the Americans fought for their rights from the British, then how did they not see the fact that they're taking away the rights of the slaves?
I guess they were just used to it .
I admit ; ii am a pretty hypocritical person myself. 
But still, I feel proud knowing that there were some of those people who had the strength the step out of their shoes and speak up.

Social Structure during Industrial Revolution...

Money distributes everyone. 

Funny how it all started as soon as money really came into play in the 1820's .

I mean before that the "rich" and "poor' lifestyles somewhat were similar & they also shared many things between them. You had the gentlemen farmers who'd share so many conversations with the yeomen farmers. 

The rich and poor would attend the same churches or the meetinghouses.

But theeeeen came along with Industrialization.

Doesn't sound like it ..but yes; money does come into play here.

You had all the bankers, merchants, manufactures making the most money.

And then you has the middle class who would be the wage earners. The traders, the farmers; they'd primarily play the role of buying, selling and trading the goods.

Then you had the urban workers and the poor.

They'd be the people who'd have mostly the temporary and dangerous jobs. 

They'd be the ones who'd load ships, carried lumber and bricks, or dig out dirt and stones the build canals.

Ok , descriptions in their places ..but didn't they all a General thing overall?

& what is that ?

KEEP THE COMMUNITY RUNNING.

I just never have understood this whole deal with social classes ..

So, who cares about how much money someone has ?

They all did their jobs in order to keep the community or the place in order.

If even one of these people were to be missing in that community THEN, something would obviously be missing, no?

If the poor didn't carry that brick, then how would you get the ships done?

If the middle class didn't do all the trading then how would the economy increase?

If the Elites weren't the bankers then who'd handle the money?

I mean, it just doesn't make sense why it's so hard to appreciate everyone.

It still goes on today. 

& it is the sad truth. 

It's sad that money is the root cause of it.

But at the same time, it's also the truth that if we didn't have money then we would not be able to survive. 

I guess, one just has to try their hardest in the world to not be prejudice, racist, or judge anyone on anything.

It's hard. Why? We're only human.

But doesn't and shouldn't stop us from trying.

 

So many years spent debating ...

After the Revolution , everyone was happy !

Well we got the land , the freedom , and the country was able to stand on its own.

But not JUST yet .

There were so many different idea erupting from everyone ..

Let's take biggest one : Jeffersonians vs. Hamiltonians. 

Jefferson on one hand supported the idea of states rights, and that every state had its own power and set of rules. One the other hand Hamilton argued that a country should have a strong central government. 

And we can always talk about what they argued about ..and it was really interesting.

But ...there's always that regret of well, what if they didn't argue all those years ? 

I mean what did those disputes cause? A war. The Civil War ..EVENTUALLY, with more than  just that cause.

But still. I might just be speaking away from literal terms ...BUT, what if they DID sit down and talk it out ?

Now that I read my thoughts..they sound kind of "What are thinking!?"

Although, what if instead of fighting all those years, and just creating more and more ideas at one time ..they just had a meeting, with their tea, or coffee (preferred) and just sat down to talk it out. 

Eeeh , they could have used a few derogatory terms and what not..But they could have just talked it out AND THEN, worked together for an amazing country.

USA : An Amazing Country that has given everyone SOOO very much.

Buuuuuuuuuut , let's face it . We're in a pretty big pothole with the trillion dollar debt. Maybe with the tea/coffee meeting they could have had ...they might have even thought of a way to get us out of the debt at that given time, thus not putting us in this debt right now.

But Janhvi dear, things are easier said than done. 

I understand that. & maybe I might have missed a little bit of history in between while there might have been a reason of the issue not getting solved.

American Revolutionary War ...

So this war ...It was PRETTY darn amazing ! 

I have NEVER been interested in wars, what so ever ..but this one was out of toe ordinary.

The American Revolutionary War .

Isn't it funny , how much a person can assume ?

I really never have had that much interest in the US History ; don't get me wrong ! I am a history fan , but never really got around the history of the USA. Sooo , when the teacher started talking about this war ..ii just kept telling myself, that psssh , I am pretty darn sure the British are going to win this war ! I mean COME-ON ! They had the most advantages on their side ; at least the ones I saw were the ones that were the most needed in war ..

Wonderful ammunition ; an abundance of men in the army ; and well I thought the only tactic you'd need in a war is to ...FIGHT .

But ..the US did something totally different . Yeah , they lacked much needed weapons, they did not have the that many men to fight but they introduced ME to a tactic called the "Guerrilla Tactic" .

Ha. This kind of sort of REALLY impressed. Not to mention the men fighting the war can even come back ..but it impressed me .

What they did is that ...while the British came charging , the US army simply Ran :D !

Yeep! They just ran . Well , they ran in order to avoid dying . 

They would keep the British army running until they'd run out of their weapons and really have no other way of "fighting the war"

Also , I forgot to mention ...as the war was taking place in the US the US army did have an advantage of resources to feed their men, and keep them somewhat healthy and sound.

On the other hand , as the colonists did not even want to have to do anything with the British, they did not give them ANY kind of food , shelter which obviously didn't bring any luck to the British. 

Eventually , the US did win the war and declared its independence ! YEEH (: !

Puritans ...

While learning about the Puritan religious beliefs ...it got me thinking.

Their beliefs were so darn strict ! They HAD to read the bible and if they did not they'd be considered to be worshiping the devil. Women had to wear such modest clothing, which actually ii don't not consider a bad thing At All, but we read that if the women wore even something like a little bow in their hair, it was considered immodest. Showing skin above the elbow, wearing tight clothing, sleeveless shirts or dresses ...was ALL considered immodest. 

You had to live this life of such strictness as if God was watching every single of your move, BUT at the same time they believed that the people to go to Heaven are already chosen. 

My interest in this honestly grew more and more when I realized how similar the guidelines for these beliefs , but not the exact practice were similar to the ones of Hinduism. 

In this culture, there are SO many strict beliefs that one HAS to follow in order to be considered a part of the society. And the thing is that this only played part in small communities where everyone was together rather than segregated into different area ; which it worked the same way for the Puritan before the members started spreading out . 

Women are supposed to be always dresses modest or the people around WILL start assuming things.

Everyone is required to go to the temple. And it's like if you don't go to the temple, people consider you like you don't have any kind of knowledge. They will seriously look down upon you & will again, assume , that you are against the nature of God and do not believe in Him. Just like with the Puritan society , a member not going to the church would be considered to be worshiping the devil .

Idk , just the connections my mind makes sometimes , are TOTALLY absurd ..

But in one way or another they're true.

Hey Dad ! What's History ?

We were dicussing in class about the questions of "What is History?" ...
& it really came across through a talk with the parental unit .
You know those days when you're sitting in the car , with absolutely nothing to talk about except the weather being to cold or too hot ? 

Mhmm ..we ALL know what I'm talking about .

Well, it's those times when you ask the most random YET , amazing questions & create ...educational moments.

So ! We're on our way back home when my father questions me about college , particularly History .
So I tell him it's a little hard ..but I think I'll manage .
He said : "Janhvi, the only thing you REALLY even need to know is that the British took over every country they could have."
Now considering this came from an engineer it was understandable ...BUT , ii went back & thought about what he said & realized it IS kind of true ..
I mean they took over South Africa - America - India ..etc .
I MIGHT be wrong ..but from what I know ..they've kind of played quite a big role in shaping the way most countries work .
They came into America, and created a path for people to make their own lives .
They kept digging their way to the west & now I sit in the found Washington state and write this blog.
They went to India & made so many factories ; thus leaving the country to a still on-going process of industrializing . 
Unfortunately, they did go to Africa but exploited all the resources and took then all away leaving a lot of the country in the poor slums today .
But I just think about it ..
& realize how big of a hand the British have had in creating some of the very big countries in the world & the most powerful country ; United States. 

Slaves vs. Servants ...

So , this is probably the WEIRDEST but very thought provoking questions my mind has popped up!

If slaves are now considered illegal ...are servants?

I mean , don't they do the same thing ...just one different terms.

Back then, the slaves took care of the land and all the farming things ..

Servants now ..take care of the house .

It's ALMOST backwards !

Now , the farmers go out and do their work while the servants stay home to do all the house work .

How weird is that ?

Maybe , ii am missing some kind of connection here ..

Or maybe not ?

Idk.

I feel guilty sometimes ..

True, we treat them different .

I mean I know back home in India we have a couple of servants but we treat them like family . I call them my "aunts" .

But still . They do all the "labor work" in house .

Except cooking ; which I don't consider labor.

Back then, slaves were obviously not considered part of the family or anything such. Yeah, in some families. But they were still exploited. 

Weren't they ?

They were mistreated, not credited one bit ..and referred to as "things".

Aren't we all slaves of SOME-KIND?

Aren't we all in SOME kind of debt ?

We owe something to SOMEONE.

It can be : Love . Money . Time . A Soda for a jinx .

But ..we're all slaves . We're all in some kind of debt .

Someway or another ...

We're considered servants ..somewhere .

A man in debt is so far a slave.
